What can you expect at this PRRT&HS Annual Meeting?
Registration
Wednesday evening early registration will be in the hotel lobby. On Friday and Saturday, the Registration Desk will be in the lower level adjacent to the Vendor and Model Rooms.
Presentations
On Thursday evening, Alex Campbell will present a slide show on The PRR in Columbus in The 1950's. Following that, Dan Adair will show slides on PRR subjects. Members are also invited to bring their own photos to show at this time. Illustrated presentations will run all day Friday and Saturday afternoon. Presentations are scheduled for 45 minutes with a 15-minute break between sessions. (A two-part presentation will also include a 15-minute break at mid-point.) Most are presented twice so you'll have an opportunity to see them all. They cover a variety of topics on PRR history, operations, technology, or modeling. View tentative 2011 Program Highlights
Tour
On Thursday, there will be an all-day bus tour to Dennison, Ohio to see the Dennison Depot Museum celebrating a former shop town on the Panhandle Division. Some PRR passenger equipment is on display and under renovation at the site.
Business Meeting
Saturday morning is the official business meeting. During this time, Al Buchan, President of the Society, will update the members on the progress of the organization.
Modeling Committee Open Forum
Dedicated volunteers of the Society provide assistance to a variety of model manufacturers who produce PRR equipment. They try to help them get things right for the modelers among us and encourage manufacturers what to roll out next. Hear what's in the pipeline.
The Model Room
A large percentage of our members are PRR model railroaders. The Model Room gives them a chance to display their latest efforts completed or in progress. Members can enter their work in the model contest where fellow members choose the winners in multiple categories by secret ballot. Winners receive recognition at the banquet. Members can also simply display their models if they are gun shy about judging. The room is staffed for security when opened and locked during off hours. Save time at the meeting and fill out your Model Room Forms in advance.
The Vendor Room
On Friday and Saturday, the ballroom becomes a train show filled with PRRT&HS members selling PRR and other model railroad equipment, books, videos, art, clothing, antiques, and memorabilia. You won't find more variety in PRR merchandise anywhere else. Shopping is a big part of the fun.
Society Merchandise
Typically the latest Society PRR books are released at the Annual Meeting, often at members-only prices. Art prints and other merchandise are usually available, too.
The Door Prize Drawing
At the registration table throughout the event and at the banquet, you can buy tickets to win a variety of PRR-related items. These items may be supplied by the host Chapter, vendors, and other donors. In the past, they have included art, books, model railroad equipment, photographs, and memorability. The more tickets you buy, the better your chances to win. Proceeds go to defray the costs of the meeting and support the Society.
The Banquet
Saturday evening is an optional banquet (extra charge) with a cash bar where you can share a meal with your fellow PRR aficionados, win a door prize or two, celebrate the winners of the Model Contest, and hear a rousing presentation from the keynote speaker.
Layout Tours
Always on Sunday and possibly Thursday and Friday evenings, area model railroaders open up home and club layouts for visits by Society members. It's a great way to cap off the weekend before heading home.
Hotel and Restaurants
The Ramada Plaza Hotel and Conference Center is a new host for our Society annual meeting. The rooms are comfortable and members get a special rate. You can eat at the hotel or drive to one of many convenient local restaurants and fast food facilities. For those who want to stay closest to the activities, there will be a mid-day food cart available near the vendor and model rooms for sandwiches, etc. Hotel Information.
